CVSA Operation Safe Driver Campaign 2026: Managing Commercial Fleet Safety

July 17, 2026

Sharing the road safely: Managing dynamics between commercial fleets and passenger vehicles

A core focus of Operation Safe Driver Week is the interaction between passenger vehicles and large commercial vehicles. Unsafe behaviors, such as cutting off a commercial truck or following too close, represent distinct reckless, careless and dangerous driving that threaten all road users.

CVSA data indicats that driver behaviors contribute to 94% of all traffic crashes. Commerical vehicles require significantly longer stopping distances and navigate larger blind spots, so risky actions in their immediate proximity can drastically escalate the risk of catastrophic collisions.

Clinton Seymour of the Alabama Trucking Association underscores the ultimate goal of these shared road safety initiatives: “Operation Safe Driver is one of the most impactful events each year for raising awareness by all drivers who share the road each and every day. This event is an opportunity for everyone to focus on what should be the key outcome for both professional truck drivers and regular passenger car drivers….everyone makes it home to their families.”

Protecting commercial fleets require widespread accountability. Deploying advanced traffic safety technology helps enforce safe driving habits across all vehicle classes, ensuring that fleets and passenger vehicles are equally protected.
