National Road Safety Week 2026: Be mindful of young people on our roads
For Australians aged 15-24, land transport remains one of the leading causes of death. This is a staggering reality that demands more than just awareness, it requires a shift in how we protect our communities.
As National Road Safety Week focuses today on the theme “Be mindful of young people on our roads,” we are reminded of the significant work of the SARAH Group (Safer Australian Roads and Highways). Founded by Peter Frazer following the tragic loss of his daughter Sarah, the SARAH Group has become a powerful voice for change, reminding us to “Drive so others survive.”
Being mindful of young people means building a system that accounts for inexperience and protects those still learning to navigate our roads. The solution lies in creating a culture of safety and this can be supported by addressing risky behaviours, such as distraction and speed, before they lead to tragedy.
We support the work SARAH Group and our road safety partners across the country are doing daily as we work towards a future where our youngest drivers can gain experience without the risk of preventable road trauma.
