Backing Australian Innovation: Austrade on Acusensus’ Global Impact

August 5, 2026

From Australian roads to the world: taking home-grown innovation global.

Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) featured Acusensus in a story on how our road safety technology is expanding from Australia into the UK and mainland Europe. Road trauma causes 50 million injuries and 1.3 million deaths globally each year and is the leading cause of death for people aged 5 to 29. It’s a challenge that doesn’t stop at any border.

In the UK, our 2024 partnership with Devon and Cornwall Police marked the country’s first long-term mobile phone and seatbelt detection program. As of September 2025, the results speak for themselves: an 83% reduction in seatbelt offences and an 80% reduction in mobile phone offences.

Acusensus Founder Alexander Jannink reflected on the impact of the programs: “What matters to Acusensus most is behaviour change. The results we’re seeing in Devon and Cornwall show that long-term enforcement with this technology can reduce dangerous driving behaviours. Ultimately, that means saving lives.”

We’re working to bring proven Australian technology to new markets and closer to a future with zero road fatalities.
