CVSA Operation Safe Driver Campaign 2026: Distracted Driving
The Invisible Threat: Exposing Hidden Distractions on our Roads
Distracted driving is one of the most pervasive forms of reckless behaviours found on highways. The CVSA’s data serves as a stark reminder of the consequences: distracted driving claimed at least 3,208 lives in the US in 2024.
As part of the effort to combat careless and dangerous driving during Operation Safe Driver week, the challenge remains that distraction is often hidden from plain sight. A phone resting in a driver’s lap is difficult for officers to spot manually at highway speeds.
Jennifer Smith, Co-Founder & CEO of StopDistractions, emphasizes the critical need for clearer visibility on our roadways: “Every distracted driving crash leaves a family forever changed. For too long, this dangerous behavior has gone largely unseen and underreported. Technologies like Acusensus give us the ability to make the invisible visible, helping law enforcement prevent tragedies before they happen. Every distraction detected is another opportunity to save a life and keep a family whole.”
Advanced technology bridges this critical enforcement gap. Acusensus solutions detect illegal cell phone use with high acuracy, operating day and night, in all weather conditions. Identifying these habits is the first step toward shifting driver behavior and saving lives.
