CVSA Operation Safe Driver Campaign 2026: Speed Management

July 16, 2026

Speeding Remains a Leading Factor in Reckless Driving

Speeding is a primary contributor to reckless and dangerous driving, drastically reducing a driver’s reaction time and increasing collision severity. Statistically, speeding was a factor in 29% of all US traffic fatalities in 2024, resulting in 11,288 deaths.

Reducing reckless speed is a core pillar of this year’s Operation Safe Driver Week campaign. Speed enforcement technology serves as a vital countermeasure and a force multiplier for law enforcement agencies striving to calm traffic and protect vulnerable road users.

Chief Holmes of the Arkansas Highway Police highlights how technology supports these enforcement initiatives on the ground: “Safety is a core value for the Arkansas Department of Transportation. Whether it’s a worker in a construction zone or a motorist out on the highway. Unfortunately, speeding continues to be one of the most dangerous behaviors we encounter. That’s one of the reasons the Arkansas Highway Police has stepped up its efforts to first make drivers aware of the laws and then enforce them. By using Acusensus technology it has helped us greatly with those efforts.”

Enforcing speed limits effectively is essential to correcting reckless driving habits and saving lives.
