In 2019, Acusensus pioneered the world’s first illegal mobile phone use enforcement camera program in New South Wales using Acusensus’ Heads-Up solution. This program has continued successfully, demonstrating our ongoing commitment to road safety and innovation. This initiative has been expanded in 1 July 2024 to include seatbelt enforcement. In mid-2021, Acusensus launched an innovative enforcement camera program in Queensland to detect both illegal mobile phone use and seatbelt non-compliance. This program, the first of its kind globally, uses fixed and trailer-based Heads-Up solutions to capture clear, prosecutable evidence 24/7 in all weather conditions.rnrnAcusensus utilises our Harmony TS1 transportable solutions for anywhere, anytime speed enforcement across regional, rural and metropolitan QLD. This initiative commenced in 2023 and is still in operation.

In February 2023, Acusensus launched a program in the ACT deploying mobile device detection cameras to combat distracted driving from mobile phone use. This initiative aligns with the ACT Government’s Vision Zero strategy, aiming for no deaths or serious injuries on Canberra’s roads.
Starting January 2025, Acusensus Multi-function Enforcement solutions will be deployed in Western Australia to simultaneously detect multiple road safety violations, including mobile phone use, seatbelt non-compliance, point speed, average speed and unregistered vehicles. This is the first time all of the Multi-function solution’s capabilities will be deployed in a single enforcement program.
Launching in May 2025, Acusensus New Zealand will be working together with the New Zealand Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) on a nationwide mobile speed enforcement program. The cameras utilised in this program will detect speeding behaviours anytime, anywhere through trailer and car-based enforcement solutions.
FAQs
Mobile safety cameras are a type of road safety camera that are installed in cars and trailers, allowing them to be moved to different locations. These cameras can be deployed anytime and anywhere to improve road safety by encouraging drivers to adhere to road rules such as speed limits, seatbelt compliance and illegal mobile phone use.
Mobile safety cameras are unsigned to maximise their effectiveness in reducing crashes. Research indicates that unsigned mobile safety cameras are twice as effective at reducing crashes compared to signposted ones.
Mobile safety cameras are operated anytime and anywhere to provide a general deterrent to illegal driver behaviour. They are deployed in areas where there is a risk of people being killed or seriously injured in a crash. For example, mobile speed trailers are deployed in regional Queensland to reduce the prevalence of speeding in the area, as most speed-related fatalities occur in remote locations.
While cameras are not hidden, deployment rules ensure they are visible and used safely, such as maintaining a minimum distance from other enforcement activities and avoiding placement near blind corners or merge lanes.
