National Road Safety Week 2026: Drive safely on regional/rural/remote roads
Driving on regional, rural and remote roads presents a unique set of conditions.
From long distances and changing road surfaces to the presence of wildlife, the regional landscape requires a different level of awareness and preparation.
As part of National Road Safety Week, today we highlight the importance of safety on regional roads. The Western Australian Road Safety Commission has demonstrated leadership in addressing road safety in these critical areas, as multi-function trailers have been deployed across the state, from the Mid West to the Great Southern. This program is designed to support the state’s goal of creating a safer road environment – education and enforcement are helping change behaviours through discouraging habits like distraction, speeding and seatbelt non-compliance, including in country roads, where most fatal crashes occur.
Together with the Road Safety Commission, we’re committed to ensuring that no matter how remote the journey, every road user has the best opportunity to return home safely.
