Our Pledge: Partnering for a Fatality Free Friday and Safer Roads Globally

May 30, 2025

Today marks Fatality Free Friday, an important initiative by the Australian Road Safety Foundation (ARSF) that calls on all road users to prioritise safety over convenience, and strive for a day without road fatalities. This year’s message is particularly poignant, with new research from the ARSF indicating that more work still needs to be done in the road safety space to reduce fatalities: more than 2/3 of Australian drivers admit to dangerous behaviour on the road (68%), 7 in 10 admit to experiencing some form of distraction while driving, and 42% would rather give up social media for a year than stop speeding (Source 1).

One way to reduce fatalities is through enforcement. Partnering with organisations and government departments across Australia, we are educating people to choose safe driving behaviours. In their first two years utilising Acusensus safety camera technology to detect driving behaviours, Queensland and New South Wales road fatalities reduced by 10% and 21% respectively (Source 2,3). Our focus remains on developing and delivering solutions that support a vision zero approach, helping to create safer roads for all Australians.

This Fatality Free Friday, let’s reflect on our individual responsibility in making our roads safer. Our choices behind the wheel matter, and we encourage everyone to make safe choices on our roads, today and every day.
